The DB Class 111 is a four-axle electric locomotive manufactured for Deutsche Bahn AG from 1974 to 1984 by five different manufacturers: Krauss-Maffei, Henschel & Son, Krupp AG, Siemens AG and Brown Boveri & Cie. These were designed as a successor to the E 10 Einheits-Elektrolokomotiven (lit. "standardized electric locomotive"); these were mainly designed for fast passenger service as demand for that sort of locomotive was high.
