The Volkswagen Type 2 is a series of commercial vehicles manufactured by Volkswagen; the first generation, designated the T1 and designed by Ben Pon, was introduced in 1949 and featured a split-screen front windshield. The Samba Bus, officially the Kleinbus Sonderausführung (lit. "small bus special version"), was a version of the T1 with twenty-one or twenty-three windows and a skylight roof.
