The Dodge Challenger is a pony car produced by the Dodge division of Chrysler. Designed by Carl Cameron, the first generation Dodge Challenger was produced starting 1969 for the 1970 model year; it was intended to compete against the Mercury Cougar, Pontiac Firebird and by extension the Ford Mustang. The Challenger, like the Cougar, was aimed at affluent young American buyers through its larger size.
