The BMW M5 is the high-performance version of the BMW 5 Series, produced since 1984. The fourth generation of the M5, styled by Karl Elmitt and internally designated the E60 or E61 depending on configuration, was based on the E60 generation of the 5 Series and entered production in 2004 as a 2005 model year model.
